Make Soap in 2009

Brambleberry soaps

My list of goals for the new year include lots of fitness and writing things, but it also includes making my own soap. I’ve read some other bloggers saying the same things this morning and maybe you decided to make soap this year too.

You could go all out and buy all the various supplies you need and some nice molds and really do it up fancy. Or, you can save milk cartons, yogurt containers and tofu boxes until you have enough to make your soap in a variety of shapes.

I think my first foray into soap making will be a kit. That way i will have all the materials I need and I can try it out without a major investment. If I don’t end up enjoying the process or the end product, I can find plenty of beautiful, handmade, natural soaps at the farmer’s market or places like Etsy.

So far, the Eco-Chic soapmaking kit from Brambleberry looks like a really good option. It has organic ingredients and not much I need to add to it to make my soap. Plus, it’s only $15.45. It may be awhile before I can try it out but I’ll be sure and keep you posted.

What made it on to your green goals list for 2009?
