Socks For your Plants

orphan sockThere is a small shopping bag at my house that holds random single socks, socks with holes in them and other bits of clothing that aren’t really good for much anymore. We normally use the socks for rags, but it you have some funky single socks, you might be interested in using them for planter covers.

what you do is take whatever small container you want to plant seeds in, pull the sock over it, tuck the end into the planter, fill with dirt and plant your seeds. This might make your yogurt container or milk carton planters look a bit more interesting on the windowsill. It might work well with tin cans, though I don’t know how well those would grow things. I would suggest using something you can make a few small drainage holes in, and putting it on some type of tray that can catch the extra water.

Unfortunately a quick look in my sock bag and all we have are white and black athletic socks with holes in them. Not exactly fun and exciting, unless I wanted to applique on them or tie-dye them or something. Or, find a squirrel to give them to and forget the planter.
